Passwords, phishing and your digital footprint — the three biggest things to get right online.

The big three risks

🔑 Passwords

A weak password is like an unlocked front door. Long, random passwords are much harder to guess or crack.

🎣 Phishing

Fake messages that look real, trying to trick you into clicking a link or giving away information.

📢 Oversharing

Posting personal details — your school, address or location — can put you at risk, even by accident.

Password strength checker

Type a practice password below — never your real one!

Score: 0 / 5
  • ✗ At least 12 characters
  • ✗ Contains an uppercase letter
  • ✗ Contains a lowercase letter
  • ✗ Contains a number
  • ✗ Contains a symbol (e.g. ! # $ %)

Your digital footprint

Every post, comment, photo and search leaves a trace — that's your digital footprint. Things you post can be copied, screenshotted or shared long after you delete them, so always think before you post.

If something online worries you

  1. Don't reply to the message.
  2. Don't delete it — you might need it as evidence.
  3. Tell a trusted adult — a teacher, parent or carer.
  4. Report and block the account if the app allows it.
